Greater Indianapolis Microbreweries
Microbreweries, small-scale, often privately-owned breweries, have become immensely popular across the United States. They offer a different taste and a unique experience to visitors. From IPAs to dark brews, microbreweries are often not restricted to one type of beer. The microbrewery craze has come to the Indianapolis area, and a number of great breweries have developed in the Indianapolis area.
Union Brewing Company
Located on Rangeline Road in Carmel, Union Brewing Company is open every day of the week. Monday through Thursday, the brewery is open between the hours of 4pm and 11pm. On Friday, it opens at 3pm and closes at 1am. On Saturday and Sunday, it opens at noon, and it closes at 11pm on Saturday and 9pm on Sunday. Sunnyvale Cream Ale is one of Union Brewing Company’s beers. Its lightest beer, Sunnyvale Cream Ale is 4.1 percent alcohol by volume. Union Brewing Company has a number of special events throughout the year. It has hosted tailgates, holiday parties, and tappings in the past.
Books and Brews
Books and Brews is a unique brewery in extreme northeastern Indianapolis. The building is a bookstore in the front and a brewery in the back. Books and Brews regularly rotates its draft, but they have at least 13 different beers on tap at a time. Other than books and beer, Books and Brews sells food. Its menu items have names inspired from classic literature like Frankenstein and Animal Farm. Brooks and Brews is open between 11am and 10pm Monday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, it is open one hour later into the evening. On Sunday, Books and Brews opens at noon and closes at 8pm. Books and Brews’ Sunday growler special is one of the better beer deals in Indianapolis. On Sunday, patrons can fill their growlers with select beers for just $8.
Like Books and Brews, Flix Brewhouse is another unique brewery in Carmel. It is the only place in Indianapolis that is both a brewery and a fully functional cinema. Cinema tickets cost around $10. They cost most in the evening on weekends. Flix is open every day of the week and shows current movies. It also sells burgers, sandwiches, pizza and salads to patrons. Flix sells 12 of its own beers, and it offers craft beer from more than 20 other regional microbreweries. Visitors must be at least 21 years old to go to Flix after 7pm.
