Northside Horse Stables
While Greater Indianapolis is one of the largest urban areas in the Midwest, it does not take long to get out into the countryside. Embracing the nearby rural areas, many horse farms and stables dot the countryside of Boone and Hamilton Counties. These stables offer stabling services, and many offer horse lessons as well.
Sterling Shields Stables
Sterling Shields Stables is a great horse stable located in rural Westfield, just east of Indianapolis Executive Airport. In addition to its 30 acres of pastures, Sterling Shields Stables has padded stalls, a jumping course, a heated washroom, a lounge and a large indoor arena. Sterling Shields Stables, in addition to stabling services, has summer camps and hosts parties. Lessons are also available for about $45.00 per lesson.
Boone Creek Farms
Located in rural Zionsville, Boone Creek Farms is another wonderful horse stable on the Northside. Boone Creek Farms is located at 13001 West Road, just south of the intersection of West 131st Street and West Road. In addition to boarding, Boone Creek Farms has showings, lessons and horse training services. Lessons are offered to students of all level of equestrian expertise. Parents should check out Boone Creek Farms’ summer camp. Held during the week during the summer, kids will have a great time spending the daytime at Boone Creek Farms.
Not too far from both Sterling Shields Stables and Boone Creek Farms, Renaissance Stables is a third Northside horse stable located near the intersection of US 421 and 300 South. Hamilton County residents will recognize that 300 South is the same road as 146th Street. Renaissance Stables is notable for having two horse arenas. One is outside, and the other is outdoors. In total, Renaissance Stables has 18 individual stables and 16 acres of pasture. However, Renaissance Stables is more than a boarding facility. Lessons are available, and, since Renaissance Stables has an indoor arena, lessons can be taken throughout the year.
