2017 Indianapolis 500 Schedule And Tickets
With May in full swing, the most exciting time of the year is once again upon Indianapolis-area residents. The Indianapolis 500 will be held for the 101st time on Sunday, May 28th, in 2017, and it is guaranteed to be another day full of excitement and fun.
Early Morning Schedule
This year, the track opens bright and early at 6:00am. An hour later, the activities at the Snake Pit are planned to begin, and they will continue until 3:30pm. This year, Zedd, Marshmello, Action Bronson, RL Grime, Adeventure Club and The Trap House will all perform in the Snake Pit. The Parade of Bands begins shortly after the gates open at 8:00am. Visitors can also catch the Borg-Warner Trophy March beginning around this time. The Celebrity Red Carpet is rolled out at 8:30am, and celebrity guests will walk through the Pagoda Plaza until approximately 10:00am. Meanwhile, the 500 Festival Princesses will parade along the IMS track beginning around 9:00am.
The pre-race festivities really start to pick up around 10:00am with race traditions beginning. At approximately 10:05am, the Purdue Band will perform “On the Banks of the Wabash,” and the driver introductions will occur about an hour and a half later. Before driver introductions, historical Indianapolis 500 cars will parade around the track beginning around 10:40am. Between about 11:44am and 12:14pm, race day is jampacked with activity. There will be a military march, a salute to veterans, a military address, an invocation, the Presentation of Colors and the performance of “Taps.” Additionally, “God Bless America,” “America the Beautiful,” the National Anthem and “Back Home Again in Indiana” will all be sung. The most famous words in racing, “Drivers, start your engines!” will be spoken at 12:14pm, and the race will begin promptly five minutes later.
As always, the race will feature 33 drivers, and it will finish upon the completion of 500 miles, which is equivalent to 200 laps at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The public gates are scheduled to close around 5:00pm on race day. In recent years, the race itself has finished well before 5:00pm, but there is no telling when the race will be done this year.
There are still some tickets available for the race. General admission tickets are easily purchasable on race day, and they are just $40.00 for attendees at least 16 years of age. Kids under the age of 16 are admitted completely free of charge if they attend the race with a paying adult. Reserved seats are still available as well, but all of the most expensive seats have already been sold for the 2017 race.
